How do I find out if I need HAZMAT classification for my liquids?

HAZMAT classification is a topic many deal with on a daily basis.  Transportation and logistics departments of companies throughout the country safely transport their materials with speed and efficiency.  The Department of Transportation (DOT) determines what liquids require a HAZMAT classification. There are nine DOT hazard classes, of which the three main areas include toxic, flammable, and explosive materials.

If you are shipping HAZMAT products you need HAZMAT-certified labels and specialized containers which are approved for the shipment of these materials. To find out if your liquids require a HAZMAT classification, check with local,  state, and federal authorities.

What are possible examples of liquids requiring HAZMAT classification?

  • Toxic liquids
  • Corrosive liquids
  • Explosive liquids
  • Combustible liquids
  • Flammable liquids
  • Radioactive liquids
  • Infectious substances

At Paper Systems, we only provide liquid bulk packaging for non-hazardous liquids. Over the years, we have found that some of our new customers previously used HAZMAT classification on their hazmat approved containers for non-hazardous liquids also. Usually, this happens when a company ships some HAZMAT liquids and chooses to ship all their products in HAZMAT containers so they only inventory one type of packaging  for all applications within their company.  However, using HAZMAT containers is more expensive than EZ-SET containers.  You just have to make sure the material shipped is non -hazardous and works for use within EZ-SET containers abilities of transporting non-hazardous liquids. Paper Systems has shipped non-hazardous liquids safely locally and overseas for over 25 years.  We know what works and have the experienced staff to walk along side of your company as a partner for success insuring your objectives are met and exceeded.  Using Paper Systems’ disposable liquid totes to ship non-hazardous liquids is an easy way to save money.
